Ward Road is open! Paint striping will likely take place the week of Nov. 4.
Oct. 22: The contractor is completing the asphalt installation this week. Base asphalt will be installed south of Alexander Creek Drive Oct. 24. The surface asphalt from 163rd Street to 58 Highway is scheduled to be placed on Friday, Oct. 25 and Monday, Oct. 28.
Minor traffic delays will occur during the placement of the surface asphalt. This is the final driving surface and will need to cool slightly before it is open to traffic. Flaggers will be on site to direct the one way traffic. Emergency services will be allowed through at any time.
Thank you for your patience during the construction. We are nearing the project's completion!
Oct. 18: VF Anderson is continuing to install the trail along the east side of Ward Road. The contractor will be installing the curb on the south end of the project starting next week.
Oct. 7: VF Anderson is installing trail along the east side of Ward Road. The final layer of asphalt is expected to be placed at the end of this week on the north end of the project. The first layer of asphalt and the curb are expected to be placed on the south side of the project at the end of this week as well.
Sept. 13: The contractor is installing driveways and working on grading for sidewalks.
Aug. 28: The contractor for Ward Road is ahead of schedule and will be working at the intersection of Alexander Creek Drive and Ward Road on August 29 & 30. The contractor will move to allow emergency vehicles and school buses to access Alexander Creek Drive.
Aug. 26: FROM GORE ROAD (163RD STREET) TO ALEXANDER CREEK DRIVE Curb installation starts Aug. 28 and will run through Tuesday, Sept. 3, followed by asphalt work Sept. 4-6. VF Anderson Builders contacted homeowners on Ward Road who will be impacted by this work with parking instructions. For residents traveling on this section of Ward Road, please allow extra time during Aug. 28-Sept. 6, as there will be delays with one way traffic during construction.
Ward Road is expected to be open to traffic from Alexander Creek Drive to Gore Road starting Monday, Sept. 9. Construction schedule is dependent on weather.
FROM ALEXANDER CREEK TO 58 HIGHWAY No major work on this stretch is anticipated until around Sept. 9. Starting Sept. 9, traffic from the Alexander Creek subdivision and the surrounding area will be diverted north onto the new section of Ward Road. Construction to install the curb and pavement in this south section of the road will take several weeks to complete.
Aug. 9: VF Anderson will set up a detour on the north end of Ward Road between 166th Street and 163rd Street. The subgrade has not been able to set up correctly with the traffic, so the detour to Mullen Drive will last approximately one week in order to allow the subgrade to set and asphalt to be poured. Access will be maintained for the homes that are between 166th and 163rd. Click here to see a map of the detour route.
Aug. 7: The plan for the next week from the contractor includes asphalt placement Aug. 8 and 9 from 166th Street to the Ward Road bridge over Alexander Creek. Ward Road will remain open during the paving operation, however the bridge will remain closed to traffic.
During the week of Aug. 12-16, the contractor anticipates detouring Ward Road traffic from 166th and Gore to Mullen Drive. The asphalt paving in this section should be completed by Aug. 16. The contractor also plans to start curb installation from 166th Street south to the bridge. Ward Road will remain open during this work. The bridge will remain closed to traffic through this week. The work schedule is dependent on weather.
Aug. 5: Letter from VF Anderson to area reasidents regarding paving asphalt base from Gore to 163rd Street.
Aug. 2: The Ward Road reconstruction project continued with pavement removal and installation of new road subgrade north of the bridge this week. The first lift of asphalt may be placed north of the bridge next week.
July 25: Ward Road project contractor VF Anderson has provided a letter for area residents with additional information on current and upcoming work within the project and contact information for residents with questions or concerns. Click here to read the letter.
July 5: VF Anderson continues to work on site grading. Construction is still on schedule with anticipated completion of phase one (of three phases) at the end of July.
June 24: Crews poured the concrete bridge deck for the bridge across Alexander Creek.
June 21: Concrete for the bridge deck was delayed this week due to chance of rain.
June 7: VF Anderson Builders is currently installing the storm sewer and performing rough grading of the site. Approximately 70 percent of the storm sewer should be completed by the end of next week. Brian-Ohlmeier Construction, the bridge contractor, has set all of the piles, constructed the bridge abutments and is now constructing the concrete formwork for the bridge deck. The concrete for the bridge deck is scheduled to be placed during the week of June 17.
May 31: Erection of the bridge falsework (temporary support structure for formwork) to cross Alexander Creek on Ward Road started this week. Installation of storm sewer infrastructure is also progressing as expected.
May 10: The contractor drove piles for the new bridge over Alexander Creek.
May 1: Cass County plans to pave Gore Road from Ward Road to Kurzweil Road May 8-10, 2024. Follow detour signage north on Ward to 155th Street during the Gore Road closure. These dates are dependent on weather.
Week of April 29: Work continues on boring for the piles that will support the new bridge. This work is expected to be completed this week, but inclement weather will push the completion date back a few days.
The construction portion of the voter-approved 2020 G.O. Bond Project Ward Road Construction started April 1, 2024.
PHASE 1 starting April 1, 2024: Ward Road is closed from immediately north of Alexander Creek Drive to immediately south of Chateau Place until approximately the end of July. This first phase of construction will be the longest of three construction phases due to the replacement of the bridge over Alexander Creek.
Residents of Alexander Creek will use the detour route of 58 Highway to Prairie Lane or 58 Highway to MO 291.
Residents of Chateau Place and Ward Park Place will use the detour route of Gore Road/163rd Street to Prairie Lane.
The second phase of construction will complete the remaining north section of the roadway and the final phase will complete the south section.
The project will completely reconstruct and upgrade Ward Road from 163rd Street to 58 Highway, adding curbs, gutters, stormwater improvements, a new bridge, street lights, a multi-use concrete pathway along the east side of Ward Road and sidewalk connection on the west side between the neighborhoods of Alexander Creek, Chateau Place and Ward Park Place.
