Additional responsibilities of the Raymore Emergency Management Department include:

• Development and update of policies, procedures and plans that conform to state and national guidelines
• The execution of all emergency and disaster operations and provision of support and assistance to other agencies in the greater KC metro area
• Coordinating actions to mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from the effects of an emergency, disaster or catastrophic event
• Promoting citizen preparedness and best practices in dealing with emergencies
• Department management, procurement and tracking of equipment and resources, long and short-range budgeting and planning
• Maintaining and operating the emergency operations center (EOC) and alternate emergency communications operations (Mobile Command Vehicle); developing contingency plans should the EOC need to be outside the Raymore area

The Emergency Management Director has overall authority for all activities related to emergency management. During an emergency or disaster, the director may assign various department heads to certain functions or coordinate mutual-aid assistance from local, state and federal agencies to accomplish the critical response and recovery from such events.
