What is a backflow prevention device?

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Missouri Safe Drinking Water Law and Regulations in the Public Drinking Water Program, requires annual testing of backflow devices. In Chapter 11--Backflow Prevention, specific items, including sprinkler systems, are identified as a potential hazard to the public drinking water supply. If backflow devices are not properly maintained, there is the potential for a vacuum to form which could reverse the suction on the water line and potentially contaminate both the direct line to your house and the public water supply.

The City of Raymore Municipal Code section 705.180--705.270 reflect the Missouri Department of Natural Resources requirements for backflow prevention. You can view this section by going to the Raymore Municipal Code on our website.

The City must receive a copy of the completed backflow test form in order for you to be in compliance.

Please feel free to call the Operations and Maintenance Division of Public Works at (816) 331-2377 during normal business hours with any questions or concerns regarding backflow prevention
