Field Training Program
When a new police officer is hired by the department, they must go through the Field Training Program. Currently there are four officers within the department that have completed a course in educating new officers. These officers have been designated as and given the title of Field Training Officer (FTO).
The length of this program can vary for officers who have police experience before coming to the Raymore Police Department; however, for new police officers who have just graduated from a police academy, the program is a minimum of 12 weeks.
Training
All sworn police officers are required to obtain 48 hours of continuing education training every three years; however, most officers obtain far more training hours than are required.
These training hours are broken down into particular areas, including:
- Interpersonal perspectives
- Skill development
- Legal studies
- Technical studies
- Racial profiling
- Firearms
