You Have a Right to be Safe

You can file for an Order of Protection against the person who is abusing you:

Filing an Order:

  • You do not need an attorney
  • You do not have to pay a filing fee
  • You do need an address where you abuser can be served
  • You must be 18 years of age or older
  • Your abuser must be 18 years of age or older

An Order of Protection may contain the following:

  • An order telling your abuser not to abuse, threaten, harass or have contact with you
  • An order telling the abuser to leave and not return to your home
  • An order awarding child custody
  • An order telling your abuser not to sell, give away or other wise dispose of you property

IF YOUR ABUSER VIOLATES AN ORDER OF PROTECTION, YOU MUST CALL THE POLICE
