MARCH 20, 2020: COVID-19 UPDATE

Post Date:03/20/2020 3:50 PM

RAYMORE, MO - On March 19, 2020, the Cass County Health Department announced that three new individuals in Cass County have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19), one each in Raymore, Belton and Creighton. There are now a total of four confirmed positive cases in Cass County. All of the patients are following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and are in isolation.

“We strongly urge you to follow every preventive measure advised by the CDC to reduce the spread of COVID-19,” Mayor Kristofer Turnbow said. “Even if you feel healthy, you may inadvertently spread the virus to high risk individuals, such as the elderly and those with existing health conditions if you do not follow basic preventive measures.”

The CDC recommends the following:

  • Avoid close contact with other people. Keep a distance of six feet between yourself and others, if possible.

  • Stay home if you can, especially if you may be sick, except to get medical care.

  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue and then throw the tissue away, or cough into your elbow.

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.

  • Clean frequently touched surfaces often, including phones, tables, countertops, doorknobs, light switches, cabinet handles.

Mayor Turnbow and City staff are in constant communication with Cass County Health, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) and other local and state agencies to receive updates.

City Hall is now closed to the public. This decision was made in the interest of the health of our residents, as well as of our staff and first responders who continue to work to provide vital City services. Residents can still contact us by phone at 816-331-0488 or online at www.raymore.com.

If you have questions or concerns about the coronavirus or if you think you are sick, please call the Missouri DHSS hotline at 877-435-8411. Because we are not medical professionals, we encourage everyone to use this resource or contact your medical provider.
